Pros

Many of the projects are very good, and fun to work on. Everyone is very accessible and most are easy to work with. The studio system means you work with a smaller group of people while having the resources of a very large firm, and Gensler treats their employees well.

Cons

Unless you are very lucky, very loud, or VERY motivated, Gensler does not do a great job at recognizing, rewarding, or developing talent, even though they make all the right noises. Unless you are one of the chosen favorites in a studio, you won't have the opportunities to work on the great projects or in the areas you want to work in. I watched many, many people get passed over for promotions to some young gun who hosted an office movie night or something, even if their credentials - seniority, licensure, client recommendations, etc. - were much higher. This is a firm that comforts you into thinking they're different, but acts like every other corporation. It's a good place to work if you go in with your eyes open.

Pros

One upside is the vibrant community of driven young designers, fostering energetic collaboration.

Cons

Dear Future Gensler Designer, I write this with respect, and hope you reconsider signing on with Gensler. I joined with enthusiasm, logging 45-60 hour weeks on endless spec law-firm layouts and redlines that no one else would touch. Despite my dedication, I was ultimately let go without any real feedback and often left idle, not for lack of effort but because of incompetent project managers who do not communicate with you at all. Favoritism is the currency there: without an internal sponsor, you’re invisible. You’ll be relegated to the grunt work—the critical but small-scale projects that keep the firm afloat yet earn no recognition. The culture feels insular and, at times, cult-like, rewarding personal connections over talent and drive. This isn’t hyperbole. If you trade your passion and skills for the Gensler name, you risk burnout and obscurity. You deserve leadership that provides clear expectations, meaningful work, and sincere acknowledgement of your contributions, not endless tasks that vanish into the firm’s margins. Protect your career and your well-being. Seek a workplace where your talent is visible, your time is valued, and your growth is genuine. Trust me, there are other companies out there for you; to me, Gensler was the rock bottom.

Pros

-You get to work for some of the largest companies in the world -

Cons

-Toxic, gossip-y culture with high turnover - Cliques (you are either in, or out. If you don't play the game and are out of the clique, they find ways to get rid of you) -Timesheets (you have to track and enter every single hour of your day and which projectd you worked for. Takes a long time to fill). Buying copyrights to things like fonts and stock photography does not usually happen. -Pay
