Excellent company to work

Pros

I enjoy working for a company where I can make a difference and where the work I do/support makes a difference for others. Given that GSI works primarily on unemployment systems for states and workforce systems for many entities, the work we do definitely makes a difference. On a personal note, I feel respected by my boss and the management team within GSI. And regardless of what disgruntled former employees say -- that included the owner of the company too. Do I work more than 40 hours a week? Yes - but that is to be expected in the IT field. And isn't unique to this company. Do I get work calls during my off hours? Yes occasionally, but in my position that also isn't unique to GSI. In my time with the company, we have been growing every year. Which is a good thing too! With the pandemic, GSI has transitioned to allowing more remote work opportunities. As a previous review posted, this is a departure from previous views of the company. I'm not sure how that is a negative.

Cons

I don't have any negatives to report.

Pros

Product is simple and user friendly

Cons

IT process is not followed and the middle management is least effective in handling the work activities. It's very inhuman to expect a human to work 24/7. The middle management really sucks to manage the work during the regular work window (9 hours). They will call even the qa analyst for nothing even at 10 pm or 2 .30 am or 4 am. It does not matter as said its 24/7. You have the dear ones to care for, stay away from Geosol! If you are an American, the lead thinks twice before speaks but for others they are very rude!

Good place to work

Pros

My experience has been a positive one. Good team members and management does a good job at trusting employees to get the work done. The company has been around for 20+ years so a good chunk of the code base is legacy code, but there are efforts being made for upgrading to more current and relevant technologies. It's a good job for people starting their careers as it's not a humongous company and not "start up" sized either so you can kind of get the best of both worlds, room for growth and enjoy a collaborative environment with team members. Agile is used for completing work, though the execution is flexible enough to allow teams to make it work for them since every now and then a curveball comes around and adjustments need to be made. Wide mix of teams that specialize in certain areas of the system, so there is always something new to learn from the people around you. There’s a casual dress code which is always a nice thing. Variety of events throughout the year that keep things interesting.

Cons

Not enough telework options until after you have been working there for a few years.
