Pros

You will always be challenged to produce the best of what you have. Their is no room for complacency, which is awesome because when you become complacent, you get bored and lose skills. Geographic Solutions is a fun company to work for and has a great group of developers to work with.

Cons

The deadline is when? No Problem :)

Amazing Place to Work

Pros

Being given the opportunity to work for GSI has changed the trajectory of my career and life in the best way possible. There is so much room for growth if you put in the work. They have a great development plan which leads to tons of promotions across all departments each year. HR also does a great job of prepping team leads and managers with various training opportunities throughout the year, specifically with a leadership lab each month. There are also great benefits including the company culture- with lots of employee engagement activities such as movie nights, picnics, holiday parties, game nights and community service opportunities with the ability to always share your ideas for more. My direct boss is understanding, encouraging, and the best mentor I could ask for. I’ve always felt supported here & never micromanaged. I love getting to tell others that I work for Geographic Solutions.

Cons

Negativity surrounding working in office, which is only twice a week for most teams and the rest is remote. Just goes to show that people will find anything to complain about. I personally love the hybrid balance and ability to work half in office and half remote.

So many negatives

Not many pros in my opinion

Cons

- Worst codebase I have ever seen. It was ancient and I couldn't do much to improve it as that was not what I was supposed to be working on. Just was supposed to maintain things. - As others have said, devs are on call 24/7. - Was casually told to work weekends with no compensation my first month working there. - Extremely dated technology, I don't feel like I'm advancing in my career or improving as a developer - Management and decisions are just backwards - Meetings, training, recruiters will tell you how great the company is - They'll hire anyone. The other devs I work with are not the brightest - Different teams don't have great communication. Problems come up from this all the time. Team A can't do thing X because of some blocker under Team B's control. But thing X comes up all the time, but Team B doesn't care enough to actually improve things so that thing X stops being a problem, but instead just fixes it each time it comes up. Makes things extremely frustrating. - Internal communication system is over-complicated and slow
