      A bureaucratic higher education environment where pay is lower than average and the environment varies from unit to unit

      Pros

      The atmosphere can be relaxed. You are trading salary for flexibility, in some cases.

      Cons

      The environment can be retrograde, with lip service given to things like remote work friendliness. Salaries are low. There are a lot of egos and, oddly, a lot of paranoia.

      Pros

      Pleasant work environment. Growing institution with many new buildings. There are some world-class faculty members, and has aspirations of growing from regional university into a world-class research institution ...

      Cons

      ... but sometimes does not seem to have the institutional knowledge and procedures needed to implement these goals effectively. Training is uneven; some people are extremely knowledgeable, others are less so.

      Best reason to work is satisfaction of working with student and learning in return. If you are working under good professor, life is good.

      Cons

      The cons were not so understanding management.
