Left Hand versus Right Hand

Pros

Friendly workforce. Clean environment. Work / Life balance is decent.

Cons

Left Hand doesn't know what the Right Hand is doing 85% of the time. Too much "offline" decision making and directional change being made last second. Interestingly political - probably due to ties with banking industry. Low pay.

Pros

Very interesting if you are into smartcard software development. Useful soft-skills courses paid by the company. Barcelona office space and office facilities. Team building activities (Christmas dinner is great), young and motivated team. Possibility to drive some change within local team, drifting away from rigid worldwide company rules. Work-life balance and schedule are OK if you don't do overtime.

Cons

Technical workers have to deal with lots of company politic affairs that should be taken by management instead. Poorly managed projects, especially when they are large and affect several international teams or external customers. Lots of unpaid overtime. One of the keys to success and career growth is working a lot of unpaid extra hours. Salaries are way below market average, although they are OK when coming fresh from university or getting hired after being an intern there. High rotation level. Most of new hires are fresh graduates or interns that leave after 1-2 years, when they find opportunities with better salaries and more confortable work environments. Barcelona's office is in the middle of an industrial area with very bad public transport connections, cause it also hosts the smartcard production facilities.
