Pros

Depending on the team you work for, you're exposed to some cutting edge work (e.g. copilot) and large scale problems (Databases, infrastructure). There are some genuinely smart people who work here, technical and non-technical.

Cons

As a company that has always been remote first, I thought GitHub would have figured out effective remote work. In some ways, the remote work dysfunction and disengagement here is worse than many other places I have worked at. HR in particular is completely invisible on all things - ranging from setting the tone on culture, to being proactive with supporting employees. No raises ("merit increases") since 2022.
