Pros

GitHub is the best place I have worked at so far. It is the right size for myself as someone who doesn't want to get lost in a huge enterprise yet (MSFT, Apple, etc.) while not being a too small startup where you know everyone. Those are great, but this is good for where I'm at in my career. > Fully remote > Amazing product with a lot of potential. Copilot is amazing technology for example. > Extremely flexible. No one cares when you're online. Best work life balance I have seen in a job. > Chill manager (I think most are very relaxed based on how GitHub tries to implement a bottom-up approach to teams) > Invested in helping your personal/professional growth > Friendly, smart, hard-working people (There is an DEI interview that tries to screen for this) > Opportunity to move around in roles > Competitive pay > Stock bonuses > Really trying to hold on to the start-up vibe despite 4000+ employees > Unlimited PTO that people actually use > Strong DEI groups (Blacktocats, Octoqueers, Octogatos, etc.) that I think have an impact on company direction/culture

Cons

> My experiences could be based on my organization. > Benefits/Pay for countries outside the U.S. are very good, but lag behind (e.g. Canada). > Starting to be pulled into MSFT so that comes with a little more structure, reorgs, etc. Doesn't usually affect work so far, but worth calling out > The provider used for Canada's pay system is iffy > As workers are interests don't align with shareholders, so there is inevitable friction. E.g. compensation
