Pros

Some of the people are really great and the product itself is really believable and it makes you proud If you enjoy being left to your own capabilities to find out the answer to your questions then its great very empowering

Cons

Unfortunately so many things They pay sign on bonuses for recruiters which is underheard of (mostly) except if you are fit the age old mold of cis white male They dont value the team that have been there the longest and refuse to give them pay increases even when the work load has increased x5 They ask illegal questions such as why are you taking vacation on such days There is 0 diversity coming from the 2 VP's any role they have someone in mind that they used to work with will automatically be hired, internal and external candidate's sometimes dont even get a response or acknowledgement of applying The leadership VPs rarely get to know their team and leave the more challenging things to everyone else There is no road map on how to progress They will block you from applying for internal positions Dont expect your efforts to be recognised in this team but the engineers are well looked after and thats actually great

Pros

Personal Time Off is ok

Cons

Extreme bureaucracy, fragile executive egos, and incompetent product managers are rampant in this company. They also pay way below market rate since they are still under the impression that "remote work" is unique to them.

Thank you for your feedback. As an organization that values transparency, collaboration, and feedback, we do our best to provide insight into how decisions are made and welcome team member feedback through open communication, AMAs, and other Division-specific vehicles like Office Hours. In regard to our approach to compensation, we look at a number of factors to ensure we offer fair and competitive compensation packages to our team members. You can find those principles on this Total Rewards Handbook page: https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/total-rewards/compensation/#gitlabs-compensation-principles

Pros

Fantastic company to work for if you love working remote as everyone is 100% remote. No corporate headquarters. Opportunity to meet with people from all over the world. The values are authentic and true. Extremely transparent.

Cons

Benefits aren't that great, no 401K. Everything is driven by a handbook, which can be frustrating sometimes.

We appreciate the feedback, but to clarify, there is a 401(k), but it does not currently include a company match. We also very much want people to understand that the handbook is a guide, but can be edited and changed by anyone at the company if there is a better way. Being all-remote, we need to make sure to document decisions as we have to work asynchronously.
