Pros

Opportunity to learn - a lot.

Cons

Opportunity to learn - a lot; but unless you are a recent college grad with an Engineering degree you will never be promoted. "Lateral" transfers to a higher position means more responsibilities and no additional pay. After two years I have gotten 40 cent raise but I have had three position jumps. They tell me I am doing very well and will allow me to train all incoming new grads (who come in making more money than me) but will not pay me for that knowledge because my degree is not in engineering.

Pros

The opportunity to work with incredible talent and experience. Employees are from every side of the globe and bring many great ideas under one roof. Health insurance is great.

Cons

Management is poor. No respect for the employee or family. Technicians with tons of experience learn quickly to just be quiet. Engineering overworked and not compensated for time. Management forces vacation time to days they want and will not grant sick time when needed. Many employees are planning to leave once their 2 year contract is over. the company would be much better off if they listened to the experienced staff instead of managers hired from failed companys. Everything good gets destroyed with the inconstant managing styles, lack of management training and empire building.

Pros

Decent salary and benefits. Immediate team members were mostly helpful.

Cons

Company is divided culturally and geographically. Each site runs things according to their own cultural ideals and norms. Only if forced to assimilate by upper executives will the various sites do things for the collective good of the company. As far as Malta, NY goes, GF is basically a foreign entity, hiring mostly foreign engineers. Sure they hire some locals for administrative and service positions, but overall it's loaded with recent graduates from foreign countries. Being in IT I noticed a lack of respect for the computer equipment and security responsibilities that go along with being given the privilege to access a corporate network with a corporate provided asset. Also, was not pleased with the way GF pulled out of their commitment to the Alliance, specifically at IBM Fishkill, forcing mass relocation on hundreds of employees. IBM is not the easiest company to get along with, but that's what you have to deal with if you get involved with them.
