Pros

This is a new foundry start up with some potential in the future. It is still early to say but the risk is high.

Cons

The management in the department is definitely out of control. Certain senior and first line managers are incompetent and cause loss of talents.

Pros

GLOBALFOUNDRIES has excellent opportunities to participate in the formation in a new Semiconductor Foundry business. The company is only 1 year old and has $5B+ in financial backing, 10K employees, 7 wafer fabs between Singapore and Germany, and building a state of the art wafer fab in New York. There are opportunities to participate in the merging of 2 companies (AMD's manufacturing business and Chartered's existing Foundry business) and the creation of a unified Foundry business model to compete against TSMC and be only second to Intel's process technology development lead by 6+ months. The work environment is excellent and expectations are typically realistic. Compensation and benefits are highly competitive.

Cons

Some of the Pros are also Cons when considering GLOBALFOUNDRIES. The challenges of merging AMD's manufacturing business and Chartered's existing Foundry business stand to be in flux for many years to come. There are sure to be management powerplays during the formation of new business units that are sure to leave some casualties. With risk comes the potential for great reward.
