Pros
The interview was quick, easy and relaxed. Once I was hired, I was given the opportunity to start as soon as I could obtain all parts of the uniform (white oxford shirt, black pants, black shoes, and black belt--very simple). I absolutely LOVE the people I worked with. The management was VERY GOOD at "weeding out" people who weren't there for the right reasons or weren't pulling their weight, despite multiple warnings. Management was very respectful of scheduling conflicts and reasonable with requesting time off. Schedule was pretty steady. They normally honor requests for increased hours, preference for shift type, etc. Most Line Workers are given the opportunity to cross-train and work in other departments if they need more hours (and they actually WILL train you). Pay was pretty comparable with the amount of work they request of you. Most importantly (at least for me), the management WILL RECOGNIZE when you are doing extra work or just plain old working hard to try to get through those busy shifts on the holidays and weekends... Even though the work was hard sometimes, I felt a lot better doing it because I felt the management genuinely appreciated the work I was doing. They've even made Starbucks coffee runs for workers after a particularly stressful shift :)
Cons
I didn't really have any major issues in working for Golden Corral. The work, especially working the Front Line, is admittedly tedious and repetitive, but you're allowed to sort of make your own fun within reason. Our location did not have direct deposit-- only paper checks. So, if you wanted your check, you had to go up there and get it on payday, regardless of whether you were working or not. Customers can be a little cranky sometimes, but that goes with any service industry job.
