Pros

Gong is a great company building an awesome product. This review is specific to the Senior Product Content Writer role. The Product Writing team is divided into UX Writing and Technical Writing. In practice, however, the UX writing approach mostly consists of applying Technical Writing rules to the UI. UX knowledge is neither required nor encouraged (which is ironic for a “UX” writer), and is considered outside the domain of the role. There is also a deliberate and wide separation between Product Designers and Product Writers, with UX writers clearly directed to avoid involvement in UX work or design decisions. At the same time, an internally built AI-based writing tool has recently been handed over to designers for generating product content themselves. This creates a notable asymmetry: Writers are instructed not to engage with design, while Designers are empowered to write content themselves. In an environment where Product writers are already positioned as “support staff” who “shouldn’t get in the way” (these are verbatim phrases), this shift further reinforces the perception of Product writing as a non-core function, and raises questions about the long-term need for the role itself within the company. This can be a reasonable role for a Technical writer who would like to dabble in the UI, and is happy to chug along for a decent paycheck and kind company benefits. As long as they’re comfortable quietly following their manager’s rules without question, and in an environment where work or decisions are often made for them without prior discussion or notification. However, for those looking for career growth within the team, managerial transparency and dialogue, or the opportunity to develop UX skills as they relate to content/product writing, they might want to look elsewhere.

Pros

Great travel and lunch perks. Really welcoming and supportive culture. Leadership is very approachable, motivating and truly uphold the "no hierarchy" element of Gong. Career advancement is very fast too compared to other companies. Overall a great group of people selling a great product

Cons

Like any sales jobs, there is a degree of pressure to hit goals, but leadership is always very understanding and helpful

Pros

It's not your standard software job, you're at the forefront of innovation and you can feel it. The sales team who share our office also use the product themselves and you can really see the impact on the end user, and it's a strong motivator. The 3 days in office policy (you can choose which) is a perfect balance IMO. Brilliant and nice people all around - and above you.

Cons

The company is transitioning from a startup to a well-established market leader, which does come with challanges for engineers. It's interesting if you like a challenge, but it's not for everyone.
