Pros

It's the frst job I've had (working for decades) where I really felt permission to stop and listen to someone. That's part of your job here. I appreciate that. The residents come first. I have always liked reaching out to people who seemed to be marginalized in any particular social situation, whether children or those with disabilities, foreigners or seniors. It is very rewarding to acknowledge and include people.

Cons

If I don't watch out, I can stay overtime. Sometimes, it's hard to walk away from unfinished tasks until the next day. But i'm getting better at that balance.

Pros

Some staff are very enjoyable to work with. The residents are the only reason I am there for. They make the work even more enjoyable.

Cons

MANAGEMENT! There are a lot of lazy staff members, and only a few good ones. Nurses will write you up for anything. There is favoritism with who can stay and who can not. ( 3 write-ups and your gone, but there have been staff members that have been written up MORE than that and are still working.) You also get paid less than you would at other facilities.

Pros

The focus is on the residents of the facility. I would put a loved one there if the need arose, as have many of my co-workers. I think that says alot. I wouldn't want to work somewhere that I wouldn't trust my own mother to be taken care of. The pay rate is fair. We are unionized.

Cons

I don't think we get enough praise for the good job we do. I also think our benefit package leaves something to be desired. Who can afford to pay $1000 out of their pocket every year and then 30% after that? Not the average single parent family. I also believe that management forgets that the reason that our residents are so well taken care of is the front line of the nusing facility and when you don't try to make your employees happy or at least work together then the quality of our work seems to diminish because of the discontent.
