Pros

Team work and unity. The compassion the staff shows the residents, their families and each other. Every day is a challenge in long term care but the staff and residents at Forest City Good Sam make it worth it. I go home each day with a sense of accomplishment and pride in myself and in my co-workers.

Cons

The pay is not where it should be. Money is not everything and it would not keep me at a job if I didn't love it. The rewards I get are bigger than the money. But the pay for the floor staff is lower than what it should be.

Pros

Because of the residents ! Close to my home. Stable company.

Cons

If management has little to do with the employees themselves, don't intermingle in their daily routines, ask questions, show interest in the employee, praise for a job well done, the employees feel unappreciated and non existent. If the only purpose of management is to ridicule, write up, reprimand, or terminate the employee-the employee will feel they are walking on eggshells in their job, scared they will be the next one to go, which does not make a happy employee, will make the employee seek employment elsewhere. The best company in LTC i ever worked for had the administrator, the director of nursing making rounds of the whole building everyday, YES, everyday. The administrator, would take the time to talk to the residents, and the staff, his words? "Good morning ______, is everything going okay today? Do you need anything?" These few simple words show teamwork, caring, and interest.

Pros

Great starting pay for high school students, flexible hours around school.

Cons

Annual pay raises (at least for hourly workers) are universal in your department/facility. Meaning you don't get a raise based on your performance, but on the facilities performance as a whole.
