Cultural Misalignment and Lack of Strategic Focus

Business Outlook

Pros

• Talented individuals in certain teams who care deeply about the mission • Flexible work policies in some departments • Exposure to cross-functional teams and enterprise-level challenges

Cons

While the company has made some visible efforts to improve performance, broader structural and cultural challenges continue to hinder progress. Leadership tends to prioritize perception and internal alignment over substantive delivery and technical excellence. As a result, meaningful impact is often sidelined in favor of image-driven initiatives. The organizational environment can feel politically charged, with limited space for collaborative problem-solving. High-performing individuals may find it difficult to thrive in a system that rewards optics over execution and where constructive feedback is often misinterpreted as dissent. Moreover, there appears to be a lack of long-term product vision and investment in talent development. Technical leadership is undervalued, and managers are often better known for controlling narrative than for enabling teams. This culture has contributed to high attrition among strong contributors and reinforces a cycle where blame and role ambiguity persist.

Pros

- Talented and collaborative teammates across engineering and product. - Mission to make healthcare more affordable is genuinely motivating. - Flexible remote work policy and good work-life balance in most teams. - Compensation is competitive, especially with benefits like (actual, reasonable) unlimited PTO. - Leadership is generally transparent during all-hands and Q&A sessions.

Cons

- Technical debt and legacy systems slow down progress. - Engineering org has undergone frequent reorgs and shifting priorities, creating instability. - Some teams operate in silos, making cross-team collaboration harder than it should be. - Product decisions can feel reactive rather than strategic at times. - Career advancement paths and leveling expectations are not always clear or consistent.
