Great people, interesting work but can feel a bit slow and indecisive.

Pros

- On the whole the people are fantastic, intelligent and genuinely want to do great work. The perks are great and the work-life balance is good. There are lots of trainings and courses on offer to learn. - Great place to work if you are a researcher or engineer where you are given a lot of creative freedom and paid well. - The projects and work produced are often of a super high quality and time is taken over them. - Really supportive culture where they are very wary of topics like inclusivity and burnout.

Cons

- There is a real lack of clarity on career progression. For a company of over 1000 people you would expect a slightly more structured and clear path for each role/team on what development to the next level looks like. Seems more driven by politics & favouritism than merit of work. - If you sit within operations you are often made to feel more like a service function than an integral part of the company mission. The Researchers/Engineers are the ones put on a pedestal and other roles seem either less important or more expendable. - There seems to be a slight lack of direction of where the organisation is going or what it is trying to achieve. It started with AGI but seems to now have pivoted to broader scientific problems - it seems to be led by whatever interesting idea leadership think is worth following at the time and how much traction is gained with the research. - People aren't encouraged to make decisions or move quickly. Often projects can take months and months where the teams are fearful or implementing anything that isn't perfect. It would be nice for people to be urged to take more risks and be more entrepreneurial.

Pros

DeepMind really is a unique place to work. Our 'be kind' value really stands out and it's wonderful to work with colleagues who love to come to work each day. Everyone across the organisation, no matter what role, is passionate about what they do.

Cons

There aren't any worth noting.
