Pros

- still lots of great & smart people to work with, but the numbers are dwindling - *some* tech and dev infra is really cool and ahead of times - company brand that still means a lot to many

Cons

Lots of great people are leaving and being replaced by people that are very junior, or with senior people with values that didn't use to be common at Google. Senior management is often more interested in just creating an appearance of a happy and healthy company, rather than actually solving some hard problems. A lot of technical debt that is increasingly hard to address due to the scale of the company. In spite of increasingly making more and more money, the management invests less and less back into the company and its employees.

Pros

It's GOOGLE. Great benefits, probably the most stable OTE pay for a sales role EVER, perks galore, and the chance to develop yourself and shape your career path with the world's greatest resources.

Cons

Despite the perks and the prestigious logo, work/life balance is poor. Google is filled to the brim with over-achievers always intent on promo or their next role. This, along with an INSATIABLE demand for growth, leads to unhealthy work/life balance. My teammates and I regularly burnout and get sick from exhaustion. Management knows about this and still lacks compassion. Instead of truly "seeing you," they say something like "working hard doesn't mean you are working smart." This sentiment hurts, especially when mgmt is constantly throwing you last-minute AIs and adding new OKRs/KPIs.

Pros

Google pays reasonably well, and makes an effort to keep employees happy enough to stay. The benefits are great, and the pay is competitive.

Cons

It is nearly impossible to transfer into engineering if you aren’t already there, and the company culture is very strange. You are expected to be friends with your coworkers, and you are expected to treat Google as though it is the best company in the world. The diversity and inclusion strategies are very tokenizing. As a queer person, I was immediately asked to get involved with diversity efforts. The culture also seems to be such that people like to pretend that Google is not a corporation that makes money. Worth mentioning also that I was hired for a job description that had nothing to do with my actual role. They told me it was consulting but turns out it was product support. Big fat lie. Also, the team I was on did things that were antithetical to the company’s “mission” and cloaked it under the guise of a necessary evil. Basically, unless they offer you a job as an engineer, avoid.
