      Pros

      * Great facilities * People are nice, but culture depends a lot on the team and manager * Good benefits, but those are very similar to other companies in tech

      Cons

      * No stability and vision, while management gaslights everyone's concerns * If you are new, you won't experience the Google you imagine you're joining. Old Google culture died in 2023, this new company is just like any other and it keeps getting worse * Some managers (usually the ones that haven't been at the company for several years) are toxic and it seems like the feel emboldened by the changes in company culture

      Now IBM/Oracle: with Sundar + Ruth, magic is gone. Food still exists.

      Pros

      * The brightest and enthusiastic ENGINEERS you'll work with * Pay is very good, (main) offices have many great amenities * (Formerly) one of most egalitarian workplaces

      Cons

      * Since Sundar + Ruth took over, the "magic" of old Google is dead * IBM / Oracle rot from inside, with non-technical leadership making terrible decisions * No promotion internally, and terrible non-technical MANAGERS getting hired in from side, bringing worst of (Qualcomm/etc) with them * Workplace is culturally hostile to political centrists (or traditional values)

      Smart selfish people

      Pros

      Good pay, safe job. They are too big to fail and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

      Cons

      A lot of smart and ambitious people, some have both of these qualities, some only one. The ambitious ones have learned to game the system and focus on productivity theater versus focusing on making whatever they're working on better. Senior management can't distinguish and they possibly could be guilty of the same.
