Pros

Great benefits Offices everywhere so opportunities to travel Massive company with lots of roles and projects so always new opportunities to explore Company values executional excellence There are teams that you can choose to be on that are rigorous and will work you hard, but also an opportunity to just "rest and vest" by going to certain teams. In those positions you can have a good work/life balance and just use all the benefits Generally found the Google teams open to remote work. For example, working from home on Fridays. Typically, no one micro-manages your day-to-day schedule. Some managers might be different though People are open even if they're on a different team to having a random meeting scheduled for you to get to know them or their team if you're interested in what they do

Cons

While perks are great, sometimes salaries are below market rate Became progressively less open during my 5 years. For example, they severely cut down on the frequency (and I think ended up canceling all-together during my last couple of weeks) the regular all-company meetings A lot of drama with all of the scandals and constant protests. I found checking my email I would sometimes feel stressed out Not much progress on the diversity front even over the course of 5 years. From day one, I heard about how much of a priority it was, but the representation numbers hardly moved and the sentiment from the underrepresented communities didn't get better either Middle managers are often not good. Manager training isn't amazing so it really depends on the individual. Some really value being a manager and care about their people, but they're not required to do so. I've been part of situations where whole teams complained about an abusive manager to HR and nothing happened

Pros

Positive, challenging work environment that gives employees ability to continue to grow into current and future roles across functions.

Cons

Very few cons. The culture caters to type-A personalities, so prepare to be challenged. Only weakness I saw over the course of 10+ years is at times, poor management of under-performers. Google tended to be soft with folks that didn't perform well. They wouldn't be promoted, but they also wouldn't be let go.
