Pros

The upper management remember your name and try to make you feel appreciated. Their 401K company match and profit sharing is superior to other food service companies. The ability to get needed time off was good. Their insurance plan was better than many of the competitors Pay was ok after a few years but required MANY hours.

Cons

Cookie cutter approach to their retail outlets. What is good in Michigan must be good in Illinois or Florida. District managers and area managers are really only concerned with their own careers and are lockstep behind whatever change is mandated. Example....Our district manager tried to convince us that a reduction in our bonus plan was actually a good thing. ...and fair...lol. District managers and area managers are far too thin skinned FAR too many people in upper management are not qualified but are in their positions because they have managed to stay with the company for many years and they are friends with the owners.(I know..this happens in many places) Example...One area manager started in a very small volume store, managed it for a year and was promoted because he was a former customer that the owner called on personally and they were drinking buddies. The guy had no people skills and had such poor grammar skills that everyone in the stores laughed at him behind his back. It was so bad that I feel he was a very poor representative for the company. Upper management can be way too picky when they choose to and will overlook the same problems when they choose to. This happened several times that I was aware of personally. Store sales budgets are not realistic from year to year. Employee bonuses are tied to budgets and constantly expecting 10% growth is unrealistic.

Pros

Overall friendly environment not very stressful at all except when receiving deliveries. Interaction with customers makes your workday pleasureable most times. Management not overbearing so its an ok place to work

Cons

The compensation is crap for the amount of work you do. There are no benefits except for so so healthcare & I guess this is for there protection since the type of work you do you are liable to get hurt. After 2-3 years here no pay increase & I mean none & hours are nothing to be happy about either hence I said good only for part-time. With GFS you get in and get out there is no long term hopes in this company
