Pros

The HQs in Lake Forest has a nice building. They're good at bringing talent in - but can't keep anyone past 2 years. (it's amazing anyone stays that long if they come into the company through internal audit). The parking lot is always salted.

Cons

The Internal Audit department is comprised layer upon layer of managers, directors, and executives with little to no audit experience. They have no idea what they’re doing, talking about, reviewing, etc. The IA Department has the worst reputation throughout Grainger, and it’s more than deserved. All the talent lies at the senior level – from which they draw a great deal out of Big 4 and other large public accounting firms. However, the seniors spend so much time “dumbing down” audit information to the managers and directors that there is little time for anything else and most seniors do not last more than 2 years. This is a department that loves anything classified as no-value added: countless status update meetings, no decisions are ever made, project trackers, moving the same information from Excel to Word to our IA software (which no one knows how to use) – the list goes on forever. In short, if you’d like to spend your career with a smile plastered on your face as your brain slowly turns to mush – this is the position for you.

Pros

Ethically run. Long history of serving communities. Recognizes employee's service anniversary dates.

Cons

You have to do your own PR campaign in order to get noticed. Climate is gossipy which creates problems if you are trying to move from one department to another. It's all about who you know not what you can or have accomplished.

Pros

Local leaders and local teammates are great to work with. Local branches are great to work with.

Cons

When I was first hired everything was great but... As the years have gone one many things including retirement, car allowance, commissions, etc have either gone away completely or has been reduced overall. Next Level Leaders only care about numbers (that's what is portrayed). Executive leaders seem to only care about investor money. Pandemic response was a SH!T SHOW. The best way to help everyone is to take everyone's commissions away and give them a $400/month commission. The bridges we have burned with our partners in the past showed up heavily in the items that we were able to get during the pandemic. Senior Leadership took a "pay cut" to show solidarity with the sales teams being asked to take a pay cut on their commissions but I am sure that they were compensated with stock options or something like that. During Pandemic I was never busier in my life at Grainger but senior leaders thought that since we were being "given" $400/month in "free" commissions that we should earn it by doing so many trainings that I had no time to spend with my customers when they really needed me the most. When I stopped focusing on the trainings because they were rolled out as optional and focused on the customers the trainings all of the sudden became mandatory again. RIDICULOUS response to the pandemic.
