Pros
-Salary for a enrollment counselor is between 40-50K depending on experience. -Free Tuition on Bachelor and Master degrees. Doctorates have 75% free tuition. All through GCU of course. -Benefits are good. (Dental does not include orthodontics). -Christian values; Christian university founded by a Baptist church in 1949. -Opportunities for advancement to become a manager, director, or professor, among others. -Lenient work schedule; can work with manager to have a schedule that suits you (within reason). -Expanding campus in Phoenix; just added a new arena for games and events.
Cons
-Enrollment Counselor positions are sales positions with quotas. In the interviews and in training they say it's not sales...it's funny though, because when you log into your employee account it shows that the department you are in is sales. -They want you to enroll at least 5 students per month, no matter what. If you don't make your quota, you will eventually get written up. -They are focused more on quantity, than the quality of the student. When you enroll a student, management doesn't care at all what type of student they are. The only thing management wants to know on the first day of class is if the student posted to their online classroom. Once the student posts, they have to pay for the class. That's why management needs to know that right away for budget reasons. -They give the manager's teams quotas and the team has to meet "budget" every month. To me, this seems unethical and not in keeping with the Department of Education. -Grand Canyon University almost filed bankruptcy in 2004! A couple investors purchased the University, and decided to trade it publicly on the Nasdaq under symbol LOPE. This is supposedly what saved the company. -Lastly, how many people have heard of GCU? Not many. Maybe people that live in Arizona, but not the rest of the states. My point is...with all these more well known universities like Arizona State University, University of Southern California, among others offering online degree programs, why would anyone choose GCU? Especially when the tuition is a lot more for GCU than the other well known universities. Most students are going to want a diploma that says a well known university, and also save money on tuition. Arizona State University is 390/credit hour for Bachelor Degrees and GCU is 435/credit hour. -From my point above, I don't see that long of a future for GCU. I forecast in the next 10 years that GCU will not be in existence, or will be bought out by another university. Sorry for your luck CEO. Maybe your 500K+ a year salary should be cut down to save the school?
