Pros

Supportive administration, great kids to teach, good work/life balance if you have some experience at teaching and can manage your own time. Most students are reasonably dedicated to doing well and the school tries to provide support to everyone, even though it is not possible to help every student succeed and feel happy, no matter what you do. Professional development has been a recent focus in the network, so there are definitely options for teachers who want to gain more confidence in their craft.

Cons

Curricular options are limited for students, which creates conflicts over time since students end up in classes they are not suited for, or do not even want to take. This makes it harder for teachers and administration since parents demand results regardless. If you do not like Great Books/classical education, stay away - this is more of a matter of personal preference for each prospective teacher.

Pros

vision, curriculum, classical education, culture

Cons

there is no salary schedule; you have first year teachers making more than 3rd or 4th year teachers; you have 1st year teachers making more than teachers with MA. To all teachers at Great Hearts: headmasters ask that you not share your salaries with each other because they are hiding something. What they are hiding is the fact that the salaries are not fair or just. What they are hiding is the fact that salaries are all over the place. Great Hearts considers itself focused on truth, goodness, and beauty. If this were true, there would be transparency of a salary schedule. They say there is a salary schedule, but they do not stick to it. Teachers at GH, ask what your colleagues are making. There you will find the truth.

Pros

I get to do incredibly rewarding, enjoyable work in a network of schools that are revolutionizing education and renewing the culture. Many of my closest friends now are colleagues or former colleagues.

Cons

Teaching is hard and not terribly lucrative. But if you're going to teach, there is nowhere better to do it than Great Hearts.
