Pros

Nice office, kind and friendly staff, catered lunches. Healthcare was alright.

Cons

I believe I worked in a different immigration practice group (different city) than the existing immigration-related reviews on here, however, it’s eerie how similar their experiences were to mine. Agree that it seems to be standard practice to hire college grads with a “no experience, will train” promise, pay them 40k, and provide no sufficient guidance or training past a few powerpoints over zoom calls. If you ask questions, you’re insulted for the aforementioned powerpoints not being enough for you. If you don’t ask questions, you’re blamed for not asking questions. This is certainly cost effective labor for them, but labor they refuse to invest in or take meaningful responsibility for. Hence, ridiculous turnover rates. Disorganization, gossip, finger pointing, and very little efficiency or focus on what really matters… our clients, the beneficiaries we’re filing for. You know, the source of the firm’s income? Because you can’t say “it’s big law, what do you expect” when it doesn’t seem that profit is being prioritized, particularly when it comes to providing services to clients that would make them want to stick around and keep paying. When someone leaves, there’s no off-boarding or transition of their case load. They’ll make you leave the day your notice is submitted (which again, seems to be a prioritization of spite over efficiency/case management. I knew someone who left, and weeks later they were getting calls and messages on their personal phone from their old clients, who couldn’t get ahold of someone at the firm regarding who their new case manager was or what was going on with their case. And this person had to just block their numbers.) Finally, dental was the worst I’ve had at any job. My plaque was out of control.

Pros

This whole situation has gotten way out of hand. I’m not going to completely “bash” the people leaving the one star reviews because we have to validate their experience. Maybe they do feel overlooked and unappreciated, but it’s not really as horrible as they portray this practice group to be. Yes, there are “favored” employees in the group, but when you take into consideration that the “favored” ones are also the ones filing the most (complex) cases, answering emails in a timely, manner, and taking on more than their fair share, can you really blame management for favoring them? They have managed to be with the firm for years so that should tell you something. Remember that this is a corporate environment - that means your effort and work ethic will need to shine through in order to rise through the ranks. I’m not saying you need to kill yourself and put in tons of over time, but keep in mind that minimal effort will only get you minimal recognition. The firm as a whole is very diverse and everyone is so willing to help. This applies to the practice group as well. I have never felt stupid or looked down upon for asking questions. There are great options to build your career in the immigration field and the salary is pretty competitive in comparison to other firms in the area. Bonuses are great too with this group! Just put in the work. Immigration isn’t for the faint of heart and many people don’t make it in the field and that’s okay!

Cons

Although new training plans have been put in place, these have only recently been put in place so the people leaving the bad reviews didn’t really get to experience the new trainings which take a full week instead of the 1.5 orientation day we used to have. Currently, a great amount of the cases are assigned to a few paralegals and this places a lot of pressure on them. Please help them get the help they need!

Pros

GT provides outstanding opportunities and training to its associates and genuinely cares and cultivates associate retention and promotion. Most of the partners care about and effectively provide valuable associate development. Support staff is also excellent.

Cons

Associates are not rewarded as well as they should be for bringing in new client business and management is not transparent about the basis on which partners (known as shareholders at GT) are compensated. Management preaches the virtue of cross-marketing, but the compensation model so disincentives cross-marketing that none exists.
