Pros

Helping the sales team develop personally and professionally was the most rewarding part of the job. The customers here are a quirky bunch that definitely make every day fun and interesting. The discount's great too, but you'll never make enough to get much out of it.

Cons

Despite my performance, I made less money with each 'advancement' and some of the people I trained and supervised made more than I did. Sexism is rampant in senior management - females have plenty of opportunity here if their morals are flexible enough. The company's recent 'changes' are a bunch of double-speak used to fight unions popping up in their stores. Employees are still regarded as expendable commodities because there's no shortage of desperate musicians. Senior management takes zero responsibility for their failures and were the most out-of-touch lot I've ever worked with. The company is widely referred to as the 'Walmart of music', but I can say from experience Walmart treats their employees with more respect.

Pros

Coworkers all have a passion for music, making it a fun atmosphere most of the time.

Cons

My position paid hourly, minimum wage. Like any retail store holidays are insane. I would be asked to work longer hours on the spot. Working at the door long hours and not allowed to sit until break is tough.

Pros

It was great to work around like minded people and cool music gear - totally a gearhead's paradise.

Cons

Once the company went private, policies changed from employee-growth centric operations that were horribly managed to profit centric policies that were vindictively managed. This company completely forgot that the difference between specialty brick and mortar retail and online specialty retail is an in-person expert and started spending less on salespeople. Which basically means the sales talent went from mediocre to just plain idiocy.
