Pros

--The pay is better here than at most grocery stores --Every employee is given a Valued Partner Perks card, which entitles you to a 10% discount on store brands (the H-E-B brand, Hill Country Fare, Central Market, etc.) and to select free products throughout the month. --Unlike most places I've worked, the satisfaction of the customer seems to be stressed over how much money the store is making. --The company has its own credit union, so if you don't have a bank account, you can still have the benefits of one of free of charge. --You get paid weekly (usually on Wednesday by 5PM, if you have direct deposit--which you will, if you join their credit union or use your own bank). --All scheduling and payroll information can be accessed online, so it is easy to drop or pick up shifts and request time off, if needed. --The company stresses community service, charity work, and employee health. --All of my coworkers are friendly and we seem to have a good time, even when the store is hectic. --Management is laid back and easy-going. --Checkers are given a thorough, hands-on 12 hour training course (spread over two days) on register operations, as well as a separate 2-3 hour TABC training course.

Cons

--The work itself can be a bit hectic, especially when the store is busy and the weather conditions are poor. There are basically two positions offered to incoming partners--Baggers and Checkers. Baggers jump from one lane to another, assisting the checker in bagging the customer's groceries. They are also expected to help the customer carry out and unload their groceries if requested, assist elderly customers who are using the store's motorized vehicles by bringing the scooters back into the store, running perishable items back to the shelves if left behind, replacing customers items if they are damaged, and keeping the parking lot organized by bringing in carts from their assigned areas. Some people move up from bagger to checker quickly, while some are baggers for their duration with the company. People who have the title of Checker obviously scan the customers items and are expected to be fast and efficient by scanning so many items per minute, correctly tendering the payment, and answering any customer questions. Checkers still have at least two bagging/carryout shifts per week, so there is some variety in the work if you prefer one position over another. Either way, you have to go outside and deal with sometimes unpleasant conditions. --H-E-B will hire 16-year-olds, so expect some of your coworkers to be immature and irresponsible. Honestly, those are the only two cons I can think of. Otherwise, I really like working here.

Pros

This is a great place to work if your a student living at home, however if your living on your own don't expect any stability what so ever.

Cons

Low hours Low pay Management is terrible unless they like you if they don't your screwed No recognition for a job well done Hardly any advancement oppurtunity unless you like to kiss a lot of a** One of my worst work experiences so far. The work is dreadful and on top of that management greatly picks favorites. I got sick for a while and because I called off for a solid few days management constantly pokes fun of me and makes me out to be a bad employee.
