Pros

-The pay is fair. -They're very flexible when it comes to scheduling. -It's got decent benefits. -They aren't stingy with the praise. -Front end work is fairly easy with guaranteed breaks. -Very considerate with call-ins and sick days. Instead of being penalized for everyday you call in sick, each consecutive call in is treated as a single occurrence. -While the management quality of every store differs, at my store, the managers are usually pretty great to work with. -Overall the atmosphere is pretty friendly and upbeat.

Cons

-Sometimes hard work doesn't cut it. Some people who were raised to a level of supervisor have been known to be lazy or break the rules, while more hard working employees were passed up. I don't know why this is. -They're very speed oriented, which isn't always a good thing. A lot of the "fast" checkers are also some of the more careless ones - they'll send bread down the belt and it ends up squished, or they'll send packages of meat down the belt and they'll pile up and break open. Certain things known to get "eaten" by the register will be sent down as well, and the customer may never get home with them. They use your checker speed as an evaluation of how well you're doing at your job, but they fail to take into consideration whether or not you're treating your customer's groceries with care. As long as you bag them right, it seems to not be an issue with them. - Non-front end work can be taxing, and there will be days when the only time you get a break is when lunch time comes around. Even though it doesn't sound like it, standing up for 4-5 hours straight is really tiring.

below average sick days and holidays expectation of 55-65 hours worked weekly for salaried managers (all levels) little work life balance. as in most places of work advancement depends on hard work topped with who you know.
