Pros

The company was a pleasure to work for until it was purchased by the Indian firm, HCL. All has changed since that time. See Cons.

Cons

HCL has the weakest management team I have ever encountered. Most seem to be castoffs from IBM or other larger firms. HCL forces the consultants to use a very tiny US travel agency. It was selected only because the owner is related to an executive at HCL. The cost to clients has more than doubled in some instances. HCL also charges the client a full-day per diem, but only pays consultants for the actuals. HCL takes the difference. This is desperation on the part of HCL execs.

Pros

You get to work with thin-skinned lazy retaliatory people that have everything compartmentalized, so you have no face or name to tie to a service, where to get help, how to correct an error, etc, it is a maze of apathy and check lists and no accountability -so if you like this kind of thing then this is a Pro for you...

Cons

If you upset their behavior police mentality, then HCL will retaliate against you, like you will not get paid. I am told that since I did not receive the paycheck in the mail that no one will help me get paid now, so now I have filed a complaint at the Dept of Wage and Hour Division, and I am conferring with a lawyer on next steps -unbelievable HCL.

Pros

- If you do not have a lot of experience they are willing to help train - Company seems financially stable

Cons

I can not speak for any other job sites outside of CA and my own experiences. But I can tell you that I'd strongly caution anyone getting into a contract with HCLTech unless you're not planning on staying at the job they hire you for more than a year or two. The pay they offer is marginal for the role typically, in CA your PTO and Sick time come from the same pool which you earn a whopping 4 hours of each month to start, but if you're really lucky you'll work with a team like mine who help you ignore these points while working. First, most of the positions they hire for, whatever salary you start with is pretty much what you'll earn. Do not expect pay increases of any kind since it will be tied to the vendor contract nor would I expect much in the way of advancement opportunities. And that's if you can stay for more than a year to begin with. Which leads me to my second point of caution which is management. They will frequently brush off any concerns you have and take little to no action. So if the work site has conditions that are extremely poor, from management at the job site you work at to HCLTech upper management, do not expect them to listen. My job site was so bad that the first day I started 2 people quit, a month later my boss quit, a month after that another of my team quit, and the last person I started with quit not long after that. Any feedback or complaints were outright ignored to try and help address the situation. And last I heard another person quit the same day I left and I doubt much will be done to fix what is so clearly broken at that job site. Which leads me to my last point and that is that HCLTech seems to be more driven to keep the service contracts they sign than they do with keeping the actual people who are working for them. You as an employee are nothing more than a widget to fit into whatever job they have and that is where you will stay. And do not expect for them to really stand up for you either and they will be extremely quick to throw you under the bus if it means keeping the status quo. If you're just starting out in IT, and looking to build experience, there are worst ways to earn your stripes. But this is not a company that you will wish to stay with for more than a year or two. And that's only if you can make it that long to begin with which brings to question are they even really interested in keeping employees.
