Medical benefits are ridiculously expensive. All while HR tries to convince the employee that they are great benefits! HR is well below average. Company just went public and they don't quite understand... i.e. offered 5% discount on stock to employees, which was viewed as a joke by almost everyone. Leadership team basically argues among each other while everyone else tries to figure out what needs to happen next. Very silo'd work environment.

That leaves the other people...see tip below • Laptops are heavy (a factor if you have a bad back) • Dual monitors require justification • Aging office furniture that have rips and stains, which can be embarrassing with vendors or other visitors • Almost all projectors need new bulbs so color does not show very well • Internal staircase does not have rubber grips so do take care if wearing shoes without good grip • Filtered water has a hint of a mold flavor • Dark cubicles and hallways, most cubicles do not have any natural light Tips • Review full details of all benefits before negotiating salary (think 3 year 401k vesting, high deductible health care plans are the only options) • The “other people” mentioned above will take a lot of time and effort. Try to buddy them with someone who can help them cover the basics, then be available for questions. • Stay away from HR
