Pros

Medical benefits aren't bad but it isn't free which is what one would think working for an insurance carrier. They have a free gym. The people I had to work with most were great and some not so much but for the most part the people there were great.

Cons

No work life balance. They expect you to do more with less pay. Management is more concerned on their own career progression and image than doing what is right and fighting for their team. Longtime employees or lifers can sometimes be the road block as their ideas are old, stifled, conservative and non progressive.

Pros

My actual time at HMSA was from 2006-2011, and up until the overall decision to turn away from Aloha and move forward on the business platform that led to the downfall of the company, HMSA was a strong, loving, caring, Ohana.

Cons

Leadership made the decision to turn away from the traditional business platform and strategy to support an uncertain business platform that was selfish and not in the best interest of the Hawaiian people. HMSA had a role in Hawaii to protect and provide for the people. The new competitive workplace went against all foundations in Hawaii and therefore the outcome is as you see today. We must move forward now the best we can. Starting all over again with the help of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole.

Pros

Decent benefits for single people

Cons

Management sucks, big time micromanaging, managers do very little work and expect you to give your life to this job for junk pay
