      IT is the least cutting edge organization in the company

      Pros

      Smart, talented, people; Company over all has a great culture; money to invest in employees, at the core the company has great values.

      Cons

      The companies core values are so lacking within IT. There is a culture lacking empowerment, and trust which is breeding a micromanagement culture. IT would rather invest in a vendor than in their people. There is a chaotic, unbalanced feel to the organization that comes largely from an IT management group that is for the most part, unskilled at what they are doing. They have an unhealthy need to manage by group think than make a decision. If by happenstance they make a decision and anything is off course they are quick to play the blame game. The blame effect is so strong that it has become paralytic and sustains that negative feedback loop of group decision making.

      Excellent Work Environment and Corporate Culture

      Pros

      Proactive firm, constantly seeking and securing new projects. Well-respected, national engineering and design firm. Great communication throughout, and across, various levels of management and staff. Employees are recognized as valued capital and are well invested in. At least in my experience, I have never felt under-valued or unappreciated. Resources (employees) are well managed to insure maximum billable hours, unlike other firms where employees often struggle to get hours and constantly worry about their employment status. Great support services are readily accessible. Excellent growth opportunities.

      Cons

      With the implementation of ACA, health insurance isn't as great as it was before. Still very good compared to other private sector firms - a sign of the times, I guess. Occasionally, client demands become overwhelming for the staff on hand, but it goes with the territory. I would rather sacrifice the occasional long day to avoid working for a company that over-staffs, where layoffs are a constant worry. Overall, I'm very pleased with my position at HNTB.

      Pros

      The company culture is positive, educational, and inviting. The team dynamics I experience are extremely positive. My supervisor notices my work and efforts, as well as, meets with me to discuss my career goals and the steps both he and I should strive to do to meet these goals.

      Cons

      A few interdisciplinary communication barriers. With the numerous disciplines and complex projects, communication and design issues are bound to arise.
