      Change can be a good thing

      Pros

      Working in IT, there's been a lot of change recently, but I think it's going to be for the better. The groups are better organized, and management seems to be listening to what we have to say. There seems to be enough investment in who we have to hopefully stem the tides of what malcontent was going on.

      Cons

      In that same vein, a lot has been up in the air recently. Turnover seems to still be an issue with some people. Hopefully we're getting to a point where we identify those issues and go from there.

      Excellent Work Environment and Corporate Culture

      Pros

      Proactive firm, constantly seeking and securing new projects. Well-respected, national engineering and design firm. Great communication throughout, and across, various levels of management and staff. Employees are recognized as valued capital and are well invested in. At least in my experience, I have never felt under-valued or unappreciated. Resources (employees) are well managed to insure maximum billable hours, unlike other firms where employees often struggle to get hours and constantly worry about their employment status. Great support services are readily accessible. Excellent growth opportunities.

      Cons

      With the implementation of ACA, health insurance isn't as great as it was before. Still very good compared to other private sector firms - a sign of the times, I guess. Occasionally, client demands become overwhelming for the staff on hand, but it goes with the territory. I would rather sacrifice the occasional long day to avoid working for a company that over-staffs, where layoffs are a constant worry. Overall, I'm very pleased with my position at HNTB.

      Pros

      Good coworkers and staff at production level with hard working staff that are eager to learn and advance their careers.

      Cons

      Company focus on larger contracts limits ability to develop less experienced staff in ways that would maximize their development, increase company backlog and improve morale.
