Pros

Its is a large hospital, with opportunities for growth. There is always an opportunity to other departments. The pay is competative, and benefits are acceptable. I believe there clinical education team is excellent.

Cons

Large institutions like this advertise that they care about their employees. They say they are innovative and advertise their Magnet status but underneath it all they are just a business and treat their employees this way. I worked 10 years at this hospital, did countless overtime and sometimes couldn't take lunch because there wasn't enough staff to manage patient care. I understood this was part of being a nurse and helping the "team" However, team work at this facility seems to be a one way street. Should you need time off, or a decent 30 minute break, or a moment after a patient has expired to process. Good luck. They just want to get the next patient in, and tell you to "team work". Or when a Nurse manager comes on the floor, when your unit is already short staffed and tell you you need to float and help the the emergency room. This only leads to burn out

Pros

Benefits, people on the ground

Cons

The Executive IT Management/Leadership are unprofessional and drive employees away or seek to force them out by firing or making the environment unpleasant. They have on numerous occasions belittled staff, use vulgar language, and never appear to consider the company's best interests. There is no work/life balance. Expected to work 40+ hours a week (excluding on-call), monitor email and work on the off days, after hours, and sometimes during paid time off. The entire IT department is understaffed, underpaid, and has low morale. Every decision is a knee jerk reaction, which always requires rollback. The annual "pay raise" is less then the cost of living average increase and are effected on employee evaluations. Pay raises don't take effect immediately and are never in effect consistently, ranges differ from year to year.
