Pros

Good company policies, nice hours, sick pay and vacation. Really cool to see all the books as they come in. Pay is really good for a retail job.

Cons

Some of the sales could be frustrating.

Pros

If you find yourself at a location where you like your managers and co-workers, this job is super fun (while physically demanding) but easy and enjoyable. Lots of great books that come through the door from individual owners, great discount on already discounted items and easy to get items from one store to another

Cons

Cleaning bathrooms after a long shift or even before your shift starts can put a damper on morale. Also some locations managers and system of operations can be different from one location to the next so when transferring you may lose interest in the job because the new store does things backwards (which is what happened to me and HR never contacted me to help me out)

Retail is retail

Pros

It's a casual environment, where you're allowed to have a unique personality. A lot of great team work among the booksellers, they understand that essentially everyone on staff is wearing the same color jersey.

Cons

It's a retail job, and has all the unavoidable downsides of retail. Customers can be jerks, the turnover is high (causing some areas to be understaffed at times), and the workload is never ending. Books continue to be brought in daily, and everyone is expected to keep up with it. This is not so much a con, as just the nature of the work. Know what you signed up for (a retail job), and take it for what it is.
