Pros

Hybrid work model New, modern office

Cons

Halozyme prides itself on its “One Team” culture. However, my experience at Halozyme was, regrettably, marked by an overwhelmingly negative culture, that significantly impacted not only my professional growth but also my overall well-being. The core of the issue seemed to stem from the very top, where the CEO’s tyrannical leadership style fostered an environment where a blind eye was turned to the belittling of team members. “Bullying” is not a word I use lightly, but I certainly feel it is applicable here. HR leadership is complicit in this. The company culture, rather than being collaborative and innovative, felt oppressive and punitive. Feedback, rather than being constructive, often took on a personal and demeaning tone, particularly from some senior management members who seemed to emulate the CEO’s approach. This created a cycle of negativity that was hard to break free from, with employees often feeling undervalued and demotivated. Moreover, the emphasis on constant surveillance and the need to adhere to excessively detailed directives left little room for autonomy or personal growth. It was disheartening to witness how this micromanagement eroded trust, pushing talented individuals to second-guess their expertise and contributions to the team. The impact on employee morale was palpable. High turnover rates and frequent absences spoke volumes about the unsustainable nature of the work environment. Conversations among colleagues often revolved around stress, dissatisfaction, and the search for new opportunities elsewhere, rather than professional development or achievements within the company. In conclusion, my experience at Halozyme was a powerful lesson in the importance of company culture and leadership style. It underscored the necessity of choosing a workplace that values and nurtures its employees, offering a stark contrast to environments where negative practices are prevalent.
