Pros

I've been very happy at Handshake. The company's mission to help students is truly embedded in our work, it's not just a fake slogan told to the press. The people make the company, and everyone I've worked with has been smart, competent, and genuinely want to help students. The company is growing very fast and with that comes lots of opportunities. I have jumped roles and teams multiple times during my time here, and successfully gone up for promotion twice. Every manager I've had has been a great mentor and cared about my personal wellbeing as much as my work. I've never had a problem with work-life balance at Handshake (admittedly that can look different depending on your team). There is no pressure to be always online as long as you do your work. In the last 2 years we've had company-wide week off twice a year (July 4 and Christmas) to encourage employees to recharge. I never feel guilty taking PTO because I know my team has got my back. The work is exciting, fast-paced, and meaningful. The company's long-term vision is really promising. I'm proud to work at Handshake!

Cons

- Silos between the different sides of the business makes visibility and communication difficult. Company recently announced a major re-org which should help. - Wish there was more diverse representation at the leadership and management level. The leadership is aware of this since this has been one of the most brought up complaints by employees over the years. To their credit, the company is making a strong effort and has set specific & measurable hiring goals. - Benefits aren't as good compared to larger tech companies, but that's unsurprising - The product itself needs a lot of work, especially the student experience. Company is aware of this and making this a priority
