Pros

Vacation and sick time are somewhat generous. Usually lots of flexibility available in scheduling. Good advertising brings in customers.

Cons

Oh where to start. Recently all employees except managers must be below 30 hours meaning no benefits for them. Very difficult to keep quality people under these circumstances. This leads to a "revolving door" of part time employees. Product shipment is terribly mismanaged (way too much product in the store). Unrealistic expectations by upper management with very low payroll (under 4% as compared to sales dollars which is unheard of)

Pros

Most of the staff in the stores are trying their best despite the efforts of the DMs and up to limit the potential of individuals and stores. Benefits when you can get them aren't bad, though no 401k match despite the CEO's continuing to pay himself an annual "dividend" in the hundreds of millions. There is potential in the niche, though the decision-makers seem hell-bent on destroying that potential.

Cons

Lack of commitment to employees and employee development An ugly HR strategy in the past year of forced conversion to PT staffing of those positions that actually interact with customers supported by DM level and up (they haven't suffered, but the stores have) Long-term strategy? Lack of evidence of it and corporate mandated programs are based on fantasy rather that reality. No support for stores with DMs and majority of SMs brought in at the expense of capable and competent managers having no understanding of HFT policies and culture (Bhopal toxic).

Pros

Harbor freight tools is a Rapidly growing company. Many opportunities to advance if interested. Most new stores seem to be in smaller suburban communities.

Cons

Odd promotions that seem to never end. Bimonthly tent sales are promoted as something big, but there is never anything new or special to distinguish them from the everyday sales. This causes confusion and frustration from customers who are looking for something special in the "special" sale.
