Pros

Harris Health is a great place to launch your career. It's a steady paycheck and you can learn a lot with application, perseverance, and hard work. Starting pay is not bad and arguably fair for many that don't have several years of work experience. Of course, that depends on where you work within the district. They are a forgiving place to work meaning that, in most cases, they put up with a lot from workers before taking action. This is a two-edged sword. Some people need that kind of forgiveness, but others may not necessarily be deserving of it. Advancement is challenging, but possible if you think outside of the box (as in transfer to another area/apply for other positions in the district/network with other managers). Most managers do not hold your PTO hostage and allow you to take it when requested. It's not hard to get holidays off in non-clinical departments.

Cons

Some policies and departmental standards seem very punitive to workers. Employees often follow different standards from management. Management shows preferential treatment in a glaringly obvious way to certain employees. There is not a second thought given to slandering and gossiping about an employee to the detriment of their professional reputation. There are no boundaries and limits contributing to more internal conflict and personal differences. There is no such thing as privacy and everything is watched/monitored and this behavior is not only tolerated but encouraged by management. There is an overall lack of appreciation from leadership, even if your position is hard to replace. Many make underhanded attempts to sabotage your work. Being that this is a healthcare organization, there are a lot of contingencies to staying employed by the system. Sometimes the environment can become hostile to the point of almost being illegal (as in the EEOC definition).
