Pros

Harris Health has an incredible Human Resource team, especially theie Learning and Talent Management who provides numerous professional development and internal mobility opportunities. Also, the compensation is competitive.

Cons

The hierarchical structure, outdated procurement practices, and rigid IT governance present significant barriers to efficiency and progress. The IT governance, in particular, feels like the opposite of shared governance, stifling collaboration and innovation. Additionally, Harris Health prides itself on its DEI initiatives, largely driven by significant minority employee demographics, but often misses the broader point of inclusivity, particularly in creating equitable opportunities and fostering an environment where all voices are truly valued. The 15% salary cap on promotions exemplifies this gap, creating inequities that leave employees in critical roles, like mine, substantially undercompensated compared to peers in similar positions. These systemic challenges not only undermine efficiency but also negatively impact morale, retention, and productivity. Streamlining procurement processes, modernizing IT governance to reflect shared decision-making, and revisiting the salary cap policy to align compensation with responsibilities and industry standards could significantly improve employee satisfaction and operational efficiency. Addressing these gaps would better position Harris Health to live up to its values, attract and retain top talent, and achieve its strategic goals effectively.

Pros

Some of the best nurses Some of the craziest cases Patients you really want to help

Cons

County hospital so the homeless have the tendency to treat you horribly. Cussed at, hit, kicked, spit at, threatened. No one policies in place to protect nurses. Teaching hospital so new doctors get opportunities to do skills RNs should do Pay is very limited. No bonuses, no reps treating you, barely get paid for holidays (only like 8 approved holidays). It’s almost impossible to get a raise every year no matter how good you are. And management is a cult. I’ve never felt less supported than by our directors Keonna and Tekhesia. Just very unprofessional, and frankly bullies to so many people - it’s not a healthy work environment.

Pros

Learned how to be even more resilient. Good pay and benefits

Cons

My mental health is rapidly declining. Bad leadership has resulted in a toxic workplace where people are not held accountable. There is retaliation that goes unchecked if you go to HR.
