Love working here

Pros

Headspace has a very inspiring mission. There are a lot of smart people at the company working hard to grow it and make it the best it can be. If you're passionate about meditation and mental well-being, what could be better than working for a company that is trying to spread meditation across the world? Everyone works hard but I feel like I am given the work/life balance I need.

Cons

There's going to be growing pains, and I think that's what the negative reviews here reflect. I'm glad I didn't let those reviews sway me. I think it helps to have a passion for the product and for meditation, and I wonder if negative reviewers didn't love using Headspace for themselves. Some people seem swamped and burned out. However I haven't felt that way and feel supported to take time off that I need to.

Pros

Our core mission is to bring health and happiness to the world, which couldn't be a more inspiring reason to create things.

Cons

The content team is a mess. The leadership on the team is more concerned about ego than building creative content. For a company that is supposed to bring health to the world, the teams are awfully unhappy.

Pros

- Mission-driven company, especially if you have an interest in health and wellness - User feedback is important and shared with the company - Employees are encouraged to use the app and given time during the day to meditate - Recognizable and inspiring brand and founder origin story - Hypothetically many ways to improve the existing app and extend/retain different user bases - They're in a hiring spree, so you should be able to negotiate successfully - There are pockets of employees who want to improve company culture and retainment

Cons

- High turnaround, they will tell you it's "growing pains" as a startup and not to read the reviews here - The apparent company-wide problems begin to unravel before your eyes weeks within joining and you'll discover people around you experienced that too - For a company that preaches to "improve the health and happiness of the world", they are not doing so internally - burnout is very common - Promises of career progression and growth are just a hiring pitch, you'll likely be lured in by a senior or director level title that has little substance - Inexperienced managers (many of which first time) who lack adequate training and have toxic leadership - Desperation for profitability with a subscription-based product leads to many "side projects" that are horrendously scoped and resourced - No transparency about company profits and finances - Speaking up on issues with culture, process, and problematic leadership will put a target on your back to be pushed out - The feedback and accountability culture is basically non-existent, the only people that thrive are the ones that people please, drink the Kool-aid, and throw others under the bus - "Unlimited" time off is a huge curse in disguise
