A company that really cares about their employees and mission

Pros

OFFICES: The offices are beautiful, you feel good as soon as you walk in. Friendly faces always welcome you. We have a fully stocked snack kitchen and daily catered lunches. You even have the option to move around and work in the different work stations--you're not chained to your desk. We have flexible hours and work-life balance is taken seriously. We have access to some of the best employee development coaching in the country, which includes all-staff retreats, company offsites and training sessions. Headspace invests in its employees and truly cares about their success and growth. RECOGNITION: Your hard work will be recognized and rewarded. I started as a temp and was only supposed to be here for 2 weeks, but I showed them that I believed in our mission, worked hard and was offered a permanent position, plus a raise soon afterwards. A strong work ethic is recognized daily at HS. In addition to our managers' feedback, we also use a special rewards tool called Bonusly. This is a cool way to let our team members know when they have done a good job, thank them for their work and give them a little gift. Bonusly can be cashed in for Nike, Delta, Amazon, etc. You can also donate your points/$$$ to charity. Whatever you like :) DREAM TEAM: Everyone I get to work with is not only talented, but also incredibly nice. You can always count on your team. I've had the pleasure of working closely with all teams, specially with our management. Our founders, Rich and Andy are amazing! I’ve worked in a wide variety of industries before, but never anything like Headspace. What makes a huge difference to me is how much Rich and Andy care about all their employees. They put a lot of thought into our retreats and are accessible during both good and bad times. Overall, the team knows how to add that personal and genuine touch when you need it. Even on a hard day as I walk back to my car, I feel good about my work. There’s nothing more fulfilling than working for a mission driven company. I can’t say enough how happy I am here and how much my own life has improved.

Cons

- We need more meeting rooms! We are building a new office so hopefully this is just a temporary problem. -Sometimes I wonder if we are too transparent and let all employees know too much info. I feel our open communication and honesty at the weekly all hands meetings is making us a target. Hence, some of the negative Glassdoor reviews.

No Leadership or Vision

Pros

-Very flexible hours -Lack of vision and leadership makes for easy-to-hit deadlines -Lots of energizing and fun co-workers -Incredibly high pay

Cons

Despite the flexibility and slow moving nature of the company, this is not a place to grow your career. It's very easy to get stuck here hoping Leadership will either be replaced or finally learn how to run a company as you cheer for the mission, but you realize after a year that you stuck around because of the high salary and vision that will never come to fruition. Leadership is inexperienced and needs to be replaced. No one knows how to run a digital subscription company and the few external people brought in with this experience always end up leaving within months. The engineering team is a black hole that moves at an inexcusable pace given their size and nothing major has changed with the Product since I joined the team 1.5 years ago. We've tripled in size but the product has stayed the same. The company is burning cash and not producing subscribers.

Wake up Homies!

Pros

-If you are someone looking to dip their toes into the start-up scene for the first time, then Headspace is a cool place to learn and execute ideas. -The folks who do the actual work, ya know, the folks who get their hands dirty working the salt mines, they are cool, brave, and believe in the Headspace mission to make the world happier and healthier. -Andy Puddicombe literally IS Headspace. He's the brand, the voice, the guru. Spending time with him, and learning from him is quite an experience. It's one I will cherish for the rest of my life. Andy, you are an amazing human being. -Free lunch, flexible work hours, interesting people!

Cons

-If you're the kind of person who works hard and wants to rise in the HS ranks, good luck sucker! Ain't gonna happen at HS. Dream on! -You've worked super-hard, brought value, and would like a raise? Suckerrrr!! Buh-bye! -The company is run by an inner cabal of VPs. There are over half dozen VPs in a company the size of roughly 180 employees. Here's an idea, get rid of these VPs suckling at Headspace's financial teats, and promote folks from below who are actually doing the real work. What the folks don't need - one more one-on-one meeting. -Oooo ooo look look, shiny object! So brilliant, I want it, and I want it now! That's how the VPs operate at HS. -All the great folks from engineering, analytics, finance, and marketing have left or are leaving. -But that's okay, because HS is in hiring frenzy. -They are brilliant at copying ideas from other tech companies, and then they brand it as "innovation." -Don't fool yourself, this is NOT a tech company; it's a content company, organized like an ad agency, posing to be a tech company with the hopes of becoming a platform to deliver meditation content. Ooo "platform", another buzz word the executives love using there. -Oh, did I fail to mention that there is absolutely no culture of debate and discord? The commandments are issued from Mt. Headspace, and the will of the executives has to surely be followed, otherwise you face imminent termination with no benefits. -The app subscription is expensive. -The values of the company are: kindness, authenticity, and creativity. Sadly the leadership exemplifies anything but. -Sadly, not a lot of Headspace employees really know what's going on. But then again, ignorance is bliss. -Good luck getting paid what your true market value is; but hey if you are an executive, pucker up your lips for that juicy teat. -You just got terminated and kicked out the door with no benefits? Oh, and you did valuable work, and you were kind and well liked at HS? Prepare to be bullied, insulted, and treated like garbage; Headspace kindness! ;)
