Pros

To work in the media industry these days is tough of course. But despite big lay offs, people are still energetic and optimistic and come with new ideas on a daily basis. And have never worked at a place with so many talented people.

Cons

Could be better communication between the local newspapers and the HQ. Could be better cooperation between online and print.

Pros

Strong financial position. Great benefits and excellent salary. Hearst Tower in NY is a wonderful new environmentally friendly building that is in a great location.

Cons

Old media company. Trying to play catch up in new media. Using the current economy to make much needed staffing cuts.

Pros

Great colleagues (for the most part), challenging work, very flexible job, occasional parties, fantastic HR person, office in a nice location.

Cons

Hectic pace; schedule can be erratic, and you often had to work holidays, evenings and weekends; no pay raises or bonuses in the last few years; required to pay dues to a union that was weak and unhelpful; there was favoritism to some reporters, who only had to work on 1 or 2 "projects" per year, never had to work weekends or holidays, and were paid better than the rest of the staff.
