Pros

None to list. Cons outweighed pros

Cons

Be aware that most sectors are colorist. They dont have alot of minorities in leadership positions. Tedious work and some of your peers who has less experience than you can write you up or even fire you. The dont pay out your ESOP. Not to my knowledge.

We’re disappointed to learn about your misgivings as they don’t accurately reflect the kind of company we are or strive to be; one that is inclusive and prioritizes the well-being of our employee-owners through supportive leadership. Our Employee Resource Groups offer an opportunity to advocate for minorities and a space to share, we encourage you to check out these communities. We also have a DE&I partner who is helping guide Henderson to be a better, more inclusive workplace. Becoming an ESOP in 2022 allowed us to share the success of the company equally across Henderson. Payouts are determined by a tiered vesting schedule tied to your years of service. Discussing the particulars of your tenure would help ensure we’re able to appropriately address your concerns so we invite you to reach out to us at 913-742-5000 to provide more insight. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Pros

Henderson Engineers is a good place to start as a designer. They have lots of resources to learn drafting programs and lots of technical leaders to ask questions. If you don’t know the answer someone will know the answer.

Cons

Work is boring and repetitive and you will never learn to be a great engineer unless you align with the right people. You will learn to be a “Henderson Engineer”, but not a real engineer. Henderson engineers is very theoretical in its design practices and tends to overthink and over analyze every single design. You will never be able to do a design your way even if you have done this job for 30 years. Henderson does not produce creative designers. Work here for 3-4 years then leave because Henderson Engineers will not pay you.

It is great to hear that you were able to learn from our technology and leaders while at Henderson. Our company believes in being an innovative firm with clients at the center. At times the care we take in our designs may seem tedious but in doing so we are able to ensure that we are providing a quality and personalized design for every facility. Additionally, we strive to align our pay and benefits with the industry as well as with the employee's experience and qualifications. We also have recently obtained ESOP status that will allow all employees will be able to benefit from the company's success. Thank you for your feedback and we wish you the best in your future endeavors!

Pros

- Great company culture - Good resources for learning - Robust quality check system to ensure jobs are done correctly - Great website/interface - Just introduced an ESOP program - Flexible hours - Amazing stadium projects

Cons

- Pay is lower than industry average - They start level 1 designers with the option to earn overtime, but move you to a salaried wage upon a promotion. For me, this was an effective pay cut as my new salary did not adjust for the overtime I had worked. - Huge focus on program work for younger designers which stunts engineering growth as you are forced to abide by a prototype and churn out plans on tight deadlines. - Smaller disciplines such as telecom or plumbing are segregated into specialists, so these disciplines are often neglected or not recognized for their contribution. The CEO once said "The words rockstar and plumbing designer do not usually go together..." when promoting a skilled plumbing engineer. This was meant to be seen as a compliment, but it makes others in the discipline feel undervalued. - HVAC designers are often asked to move to plumbing full time and then lose recognition as a result.
