Constant Reorganizations

Pros

HighTower has many great, intelligent, hard-working employees, but that's not enough.

Cons

HighTower hasn't decided what kind of organization it wants to be. It is constantly reorganizing its departments and causing confusion and chaos without thought for standardized processes, especially during a RIF. No thought as to how the work will get done once the RIF is over. Human Resources is a mess and does not add value to the organization. Turnover in accounting and finance at corporate is very high. Changes at the top can likely propel this organization into the future. The CEO and CFO are always looking to make the next big deal without understanding what resources are available to get these last minute deals completed. If you don't like constant chaos, this organization is not for you.

Sr Management Turnover

Pros

Company has great potential. Ideas flow. Clients are top priority. Good salary. Talented people actually doing the work are the hidden gems as to why this company is still in existence.

Cons

Management turnover has been high. Lack of good leadership. It is a dictatorship. Line managers and staff hurt in the long run from poor decisions made at the top. Low cost benefits = low quality benefits. Negative publicity. Zero room for advancement. The different segments of the business make it impossible for this company to succeed.

Pros

Got to work with some great advisors, sophisticated client base, and had a terrific introduction to the industry. It was also nice knowing I had a direct input to the company through my partners. I knew they would get my point across whether an idea was accepted or not. Very open architecture. Not saying it matter in the end, but was nice to have some kind of voice at a big company.

Cons

It was a smaller company when I started, but it truly was not a place for a younger advisor. As is consistent with other advisory firms, management does not care about you unless you are a producer and do not attempt to develop young advisors. The performance reporting software was absolutely terrible and beta testing any software was always a bad idea because your team got stuck testing all the bugs. Why would you ever become a managing partner if there is a huge overhead cost as well as them taking a majority share without knowing exactly how much your stock is worth?
