Pros

Great peers to work with Allows WFH on need basis

Cons

Lets start from the top! 1) No training is provided on joining the project. They expect you to start performing/ delivering from day 1. 2) Infrastructure is poor. No standing desk. Small office with lots of people crammed into it. 3) Don't expect your manager to know what they hired you for. In other words, expect work assigned to you that is not inline with that you interviewed for. 4) Don't expect them to know what they are doing. Upper management does not have their thoughts/goals organized. They might start working on a project to please a team they are on boarding or their superior and then not see that project through. They will jump on to the next thing. They are in this unreasonable frenzy without an end goal or bigger picture in mind. 5) Meetings with management is painful. You will discover new things every day which will throw a wrench in your daily tasks/ project plan. So you are constantly playing the balancing act while the management does its best to throw things out of a balance. 6) Management is highly self-unaware. So they might not even see how their attitude and behavior is pulling down the spirit of the employees. 7) Speaking of which, there is no team spirit. Everyone is for themselves. So you might not find it easy to depend on others and feel supported. 8) The psyche of the firm is dysfunctional. Cocky, over confident, arrogant people with fawning personality find it easy to survive and find themselves at an advantage to make it to the top. Qualities like kindness and empathy are seriously downplayed and looked upon as weakness. Tips for people joining Hightower: 1) Start on a strong, confident note. Fake it till you make it! 2) Take thorough notes of every meeting and send it across to the management involved in the meeting. This way you will not end up being a scapegoat of their chaotic thought process. 3) Don't take anything personally, especially if you are coming for a supportive, collaborative workplace. Give yourself enough time to adjust to the new reality! 4) Get therapy. You will need it!

Pros

The people are the best part of the firm.

Cons

Too many to list, bottom line the firm is filled with political games and favorites. So many hardworking people are taken for granted and there are many people in many departments who have no business managing people or making decisions. Scroll the glass door reviews and nearly all of the high scores are written by the people who are favored or their subordinates. The president used to be a favorite of employees and now he is just a shell of a leader who can no longer look people in the eye with genuine sincerity.

Stay away from this place! Can I give this place negative stars?

Pros

Since a large part of it is owned by private equity its almost a free for all. Almost because its the execs that abuse this the most. Great public relations announcements that creates so much noise that you don't see how bad it really is.

Cons

This place has actually fallen behind rather quickly. There is plenty of PR stating that this organization is disrupting the industry which couldn't be further from the truth (great PR). The vast majority of the tech team is behind the times and this is due to poor leadership from the CTO, the hiring practices are even worse. If you know the CTO you can get a job pretty easily whether or not you can do the job. However don't ever challenge 95% of the execs at HighTower, it gets escalated pretty quick. The whole technology and operations group could really use an upgrade of talented resources. Elliot is so far removed from reality that its pathetic. There are certain execs that can say or do anything and there are no consequences with HR. Its an absolute zoo. Do not buy into the hype about the IPO either. Do not go to work here with the hopes that your "stock" will be worth anything and that you will have a decent nest egg. Management has made sure they will be the ones to make out like bandits (IF there is a liquidity event) and the rest of the "common folk" will be left behind.
