Weekly social events like “Beer Thursdays” are meant to foster team bonding, but holding them during working hours and centering them on alcohol may feel exclusive to some employees. From a safety and legal perspective, drinking during work hours could pose risks, particularly if employees need to commute or handle technical tasks afterward. Consider offering more inclusive alternatives (fruits, mocktails, casual lunches, team games) to maintain the positive spirit while being safe and welcoming to all. While the majority of employees belong to a certain racial group, minority employees may not feel fully considered in social or professional initiatives. Even bonding activities cannot compensate for deeper issues like bias in hiring, promotions, and recognition.
