Pros

Good morals. Christian based ethical company. Store hours good compared to other retailers. Monday - Saturday 9-8, and closed Sundays. Work week typically 50 t0 60 hours, good for family time. Upper management truly seems to care in your development. Great place to work.

Cons

Be Careful when unloading trucks! You get 1 to 2 per week, full from front to back, and often looking like loaded by catapult. Very low tech merchandising and ordering processes. Many things you would like to implement in your store that are out of the norm must be approved in advance by upper management.

No time for our wonderful customers.

Pros

It is a job and the customers are well worth your trouble. Hobby Lobby has attracted very nice, wonderful customers who always enjoy our interactions with them. Most of them are crafters and hobbiest who love shopping the store and coming up with new ideas. When the employees get a chance to interact with the customers it makes for a very enjoyable atmosphere. When they happen to hire department heads or employees who know their departments, the customers are thrilled and become very good repeat customers. That is really the only rewarding part of the job.

Cons

No advancement opportunity for anyone other than manager or co-manager. Very, very low pay for anyone other than manager or co-manager. We are not allowed enough customer relations and interactions with the customers. We are all just stockmen and cashiers. We are not given the time or opportunity to help customers when they need it. There are no isle signs or department signs telling the customers where departments and merchandes is. They need our help to navigate the store, but we are not able (and never enough of us) to help them. We are told by management to "walk them to where they need to go", but are repremanded when we take any time with a customer because we should be "putting up stock", "reordering", or doing "resets". The only way to accomplish our jobs in the time alotted is to "ignore the customers" so they don't take time away from our tasks.

Pros

Salary is actually very good as you end up being a overpaid stockman

Cons

Training, Obsessive Micro Managing by senior field management, Often Confusing and Contradicting direction by field management. Philosophy of company appears to be--If you are not at work, you need to repent! Actually had RVP call me at home on sick day and berate me for not being at work. Take some medicine and get in here.
