Pros

Starting wage sufficient for retail

Cons

The lack of training is incredible! I was thrown on a register the second day and expected to know which department each item fell into. Example: Customer purchases a glue gun. There are glue guns in three different departments. You had to ASK THE CUSTOMER where they got the glue gun...seriously?? There are no bar codes. You enter each item individually and you better know which department it is to be rung under and if it is on sale or you are put on the "bad girl list." That is literally what they call it. Hobby Lobby is a huge retail store. There are several departments that actually have thousands of items in each department. There is no training...period. The "store tour" was literally fifteen minutes and it was done by a very disgruntled store manager. I've never seen a manager that was as condescending as this manager. The employees are scared to approach the manager. When I first started, I was told by several employees that they stay as far away from the manager as possible. The mission statement doesn't apply at the store, which saddens me. Customers complain about the amount of time it takes to check out due to the fact that there are no bar codes. They get irritated when you have to look at the discount flyer to make sure you are giving the correct discount, or make sure that item does not have a discount. If I took time to list the cons of working at this store, it would take hours.

Pros

Not many, except that they're closed on Sunday.

Cons

Immature and Unprofessional Store Management. Lack of Staff scheduled for the amount of work that needs to be done. Truck days he schedules us from 6AM-Closing or when ALL freight is completed which sometimes could be as late as Midnight or up to 2AM...

Pros

I would have to say that the hourly staff that I had the pleasure and honor of working with would be considered as " TOP NOTCH ".

Cons

Zero work/life balance. No training. One the oddest companies I have worked with, when attending a seminar at the corp. office Ok City a VP told our group his rule to be successful with HL was god, family then HL in that order. I don't believe my DM got that memo. It is a common practice to work a 14+ hr day alone without a meal/break. You will work 65+ hrs a week. My store mgr ? WOW a very insecure totally disconnected individual ( ideal puppet for DM ) with short man syndrome . If you have no life or people skills , then this is the mgmt. position for you .
