Pros

Great pay, discounts (not very much)

Cons

35 hours is NOT full time, the manager I worked for was a complete waste of space, grumpy, and selfish old man. I was hired for scrapbooking full time and I ended up being stationed in the bathrooms to clean every night. He handed me a razor blade, gloves and lysol to SCRAPE the bottom of the urinals in the bathroom. Then proceeded to yell at me and tell me that I don't understand the workings of my own department like inventory and ordering because I was always cleaning the bathrooms. It got to the point where I wouldn't clean the bathrooms and just empty the trash. Then it just boiled down to me throwing off my gloves and saying I will not touch another bathroom while I am here. I am not a janitor, if you want one hire one. And then he made ridiculous claims on my record that I wouldn't show up for work (which didn't stand up because they saw my clock in number whenever I was scheduled to work) and that he also stated I refused to do my job. One time on a sunday night, we had a horrible rainstorm that the roof leaked all night long. HUGE piles of water everywhere. I came in with about 12 other people and he singled me out to mop it up. Then proceeded to tell me that my mopping skills were not up to his standards and took me up to his office to write me up - which I refused to sign. All this happened in 3 months. Worst place to work EVER.

Pros

Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays.

Cons

Being an Exempt Salaried Manager for Hobby Lobby. They do not tell you when they make you a job offer that you will be required to help at new store openings and help other stores prepare for a CEO visit from David Green. 1. New Store Opening: Leave my family for 21 days and go to another part of the country. Worked from 7am to 11pm every day for 21 days straight. No time off to do laundry, buy groceries (you are forced to eat out every day), work out to be healthy or anything for that matter. 2. CEO Visit: Leave my family for 10 more days and go to another part of the country. Worked again from 7am to 11pm every day for 10 days straight. Again....no time off to do anything. From what other employees have told me, the CEO is only in the store for about 20 minutes. **I have worked in retail for 20+ years and have never worked so hard in my life in a management role. I don't mind working hard and rolling up my sleeves to dig in but this was absolutely redicilous and ludicrous. Hobby Lobby does not give you a bonus or any monetary reward for doing this. They give you $25 per day for food and believe me, you use it everyday to eat and drink. You work on average of 105 hours per week so I think about what this does to my salary on an hourly bases (If I wanted to earn $10 an hour I would work somewhere with no responsibility or stress).

Pros

- The discount - You get very acquainted with hobbies you never knew existed - For the most part you were off every Sunday unless there was something that needed to be done - You gain experience managing 50 plus associates - You gain "big box" experience

Cons

- The hours required to work, 50+, even sometimes hitting 60 - Hard to get any days off if needed for doctor visits, etc... - There is absolutely no regard to anyone having a life outside the store even though they claim they are Christian based - The DM over the market I was in, was a micro manager - The constant fear that there will be a corporate visitor is a weekly occurrence, and so you have to stay later to be ready "just in case" they stop by - Having to close two nights a week even though you have to be there at 7 am, so 7 am to 9 pm ish twice a week
