Pros

I guess the biggest pro to working at Home Instead is the flexible hours. If they call you for a shift and you can't work it for whatever reason, it's Ok (within reason of course). It's good positive work that you can feel good about. You could do a lot worse. Oh, they'll pretty much higher anyone who's willing to work. This is a franchise, so your experience is going to vary.

Cons

Pay is terrible! Also, hours are very limited. They might tell you during the interview that it's part time with possibility for full time, but, that's a lie. Starting off you'll be lucky to get eight hours a week! Forget about full time hours. You are on call as well. My office loves to call at 8:00am and ask if you can go in for a shift at 9:30am. Also, the work can be very boring at times. Sometimes you'll go in for a four to six hour shift and there isn't really anything to do. Sometimes the client and their family thinks that you are a nurse and expects you to preform "nurse duties" and gets upset when they find out you're not really a nurse. Obvious commutation problems with the office and the client.

Pros

Get to meet some wonderful seniors and flexible schedule and medical insurance. They try to match your personality with the client's.

Cons

Get to meet some cranky seniors that mistreat you and abuse you emotionally everyday even when you use all the techniques to deal with dementia and alzeimers. ( some of the staffers wont care much about that cause they think its part of the job. Not enough compensation for all the work you do. Staffers don't give enough information about the client you're going to and you can find some " surprises". Good or bad ones Its really emotionally demanding.
